Tie-Dye Dresses: Political or Fashion Statement?
Women’s hippy culture began in the sixties. Women wearing tie-dye dresses was more of a movement as compared to a fashion statement. This movement was about peace and protest of a country at war and this became an era where the lifestyles of hippies stood out tremendously.
There were many people who followed this movement. Some were motivated in becoming hippies while others merely found the views of this culture interesting hence following the movement.
The types of clothes worn by this culture however was quite eccentric and the fashion definitely caught on and is still
popular to this day. The wearing of tie-dye dresses by women has become popular even within our current society and has proved it’s here to stay within the fashion world.
Women’s tie-dye dresses are typically colorful and long with full skirts and have proved quite feminine. Tie-dye dresses are sometimes designed differently within our modern times and it is a fashion which refuses to go away with designers, famous and not-so famous, revitalizing the look of tie-dye for women.
No matter how strange or boldly the women’s tie-dye dresses are designed, they seem to be flying off the shelves and not only in alternative style boutiques but department stores as well. Women’s tie-dye dresses prove unique and eccentric while standing out from the crowd of other fashions. Many people embrace this fashion due to wanting to be unique and trendy.
Currently, modern-day hippies still wear the same odd fashioned clothes but all of a sudden, within our fashion world, they are no longer odd. Some women who wear the tie-dye dresses are not all quote “hippies” however, it’s obvious they enjoy the fashion statement.
No matter how commercialized the hippy statement was and has become, the hippy fashion is still linked with the values of hippies. When you view a woman wearing a tie-dye dress, you must wonder, is she a hippy or is she just fashion-minded or both? Only she knows the truth.

It’s a really nice article on tie dye cloths and its history. I have worn tie dye dresses so many time but really didn’t know that women wearing tie-dye dresses was more of a movement than a fashion statement. I personally feel that women’s tie dye dresses are very colorful and i love it. The good thing about tie dye cloths is that it has never really gone out of fashion.

This is amazing and helpful. Girls always love to add anything to make their shirts chic. I used to dye my shirts in grade school, and make designs out of plain shirts. But I didn’t use kits at my time. The tips on how to fold to make more designs are really helpful.
